My winter here in Arkansas started last week and we had our first group of anglers come stay at the White River Trout Lodge. Myself and Mike Winkler guided Joe & Chris from PA and Mark & Johnnie from OK. We saw the full range of weather the past week with cold, snow, rain, wind and then a bight sunny warm day. One thing we didnt see was some power generation from Bull Shoals Dam and higher flows. Without water the hunt for Big Browns with streamer is a tough bite. In the lower flows the Rainbows were very active on small streamers, worm patterns, nymphs and lots of little minnows jig patterns. Did get a few nice Browns also! Night mousing has been producing also on the night with stable weather.
Dinner at the White River Trout Lodge and watching Michigan win the Football National Championship! Fire place was going strong after very wet day on the river to dry our gear all out.
Now here is some real good news – finally here comes some water starting on Sunday! Current power generation schedule shows 200 mega watts for both Sunday and Monday. That is some ideal streamer water! Weather is sure changing right now here comes some Winter weather with cold and snow on Sunday. Here on White River cold winter weather means high water and Big Browns. Hands will take some pain and got to bring oversize mitten with hand warmer to give those hands a warm up now and then. The White River system is in low water right now and the higher water probably wont last but hopefully stays on this week.
